holiday gift guide

winter essentials that should be on your wishlist

“What do you want for Christmas?”

This is always uncomfortable to answer on-the-spot. I’m not sure why, according to my iphone I spend hours online everyday scrolling & reading style content.

have a christmas wishlist ready

It might be a little gouache to send an amazon wishlist or links, but honestly, it makes it a lot easier on the gift giver. Even if you never send it, making one will prep you to answer when you’re asked. After all, if someone wants to gift you something, make sure it’s something you actually want. Don’t let their effort and money go to waste on something you’ll never use. Hello, looking at a yellow turtleneck in my closet right now.

  1. Ask for the items you don’t want to spend getting yourself. Think about that splurge item that you’ve added-to-cart several times, then convinced yourself you didn’t need.
  2. Ask for the items you purchase frequently. This will free up money for you to spend on other stuff — looking at you again splurge item.

on my list

Here’s what I’m asking for: a few statement pieces that I’ll wear all winter long. Most of the items I’m choosing are neutrals so they’ll go with everything and I’ll still be able to wear them year after year.

a neutral hat

I have a black floppy hat and a paper sun hat, so now it’s time for a soft brown. I love Lucy Avenue Boutique because they have afterpay + their items are modest for work. Plus, let’s be real, I’m 32. Some of the other boutiques (hello Revolve and Red Dress) just cater to a younger crowd. This hat is priced at $69.99 or 4 payments of $17.50 with afterpay — shop it here.

This hat is from Amazon & right now it’s listed at $19.99 — shop it here.

effortless sweaters

I bought 3 sweaters last year from express and, not only are they still in style, but they make for an easy outfit that looks put together. A good sweater makes can be paired with just about anything in your closet.

I love H&M for simple sweaters. They’re ultra affordable, this one was $12, and aren’t too heavy — shop H&M sweaters here.

My girl Jenna, pictured above, is a stylist at Nordstrom. While she might live in sunny SoCal, I still trust her style expertise, even when it comes to sweaters — shop under $100 Nordstrom sweaters here.

good denim

This is where I need help. I’ve never really splurged on good denim before. But I think it’s time. From the buyers I worked with at Dillard’s to my fave stylist (see above), Madewell kept coming up. And right now, they have 25% sitwide with code STARTEARLY. Start here for everything you need to know about finding the right denim.

what to give practically everybody on your list

When it comes to gift giving, I want to know the recipient will really use whatever I get for them. I love the whole process of gifting: picking something out, imagining them using it, and wrapping it. I tend to lean towards something practical that won’t mess with their style or design aesthetic.

a roadside emergency kit

Is there a more dad-approved gift? I’m opting for a Stanley Fat Max for my dad, but I also love these mini kits for well, anyone who drives.

My fiance has this one, and I can’t even tell you how many times we’ve had to use it. It does everything:

travel must-haves

Your mom, sister, aunt, girlfriend, or any other feminine travel-loving person in your life will appreciate packing cubes, on-the-go jewelry organizers, or travel-friendly tech.

I purchased this travel jewelry organizer from Amazon for $19.99. Now I just need more jewelry to fill it — shop it here.

Packing cubes will change how you travel. Everything stays organized and it’s easy to find things quickly. I got this whole set for $25 — shop them here.

let’s talk tech gifts
